Suffering from dry, itchy, red or burning eyes?

Dry Eye Disease (DED) is one of the most common eye conditions. More than 86% of Dry Eye cases are caused by MGD (Meibomian Gland Dysfunction).

The disease has a significant impact on the quality of life, with symptoms such as foreign body sensation, pain, blurry vision, dry or watery eyes.

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is a revolutionary Smart Treatment, adopted by Smart Vision Optometry, which effectively breaks the dry eye vicious cycle – providing long lasting results.

“A few years ago, my eyes were constantly tearing up. I spent a small fortune trying several different eye drops– none of them worked. I finally had IPL treatment. Love it!”

– Anna Heata Mosconi

“As a pilot, having dry, irritated eyes is unacceptable. Drops provided a temporary solution but putting them in my eyes all day was a big inconvenience. After a few treatments with IPL, my vision was back to normal. I’ve recommended the treatment to all my fellow workers who suffer from the same problem.”

– Josh Bauer, Commercial Pilot

Smart Vision IPL Treatment
IPL treatment for dry eye due to MGD targets inflammation below the skin surface. It involves applying gentle light pulses from ear to ear across the face.

Your Smart Vision Optometrist will apply coupling gel on the treatment area to ensure comfort. You will wear IPL protective shields throughout the treatment session for eye safety. You may experience a warm sensation as light is applied to the skin, but this is normal: the treatment is gentle with minimum discomfort. Each session lasts approximately 15 minutes.

Following the Smart Vision IPL procedure, your Smart Vision Optometrist may express your meibomian glands as an optional procedure.

What should I expect?

What happens after treatment?

Immediately following treatment, you may experience some redness around the treated areas: this will usually disappear within a few hours. In most cases, you can apply makeup straightaway, and return to your daily activities the same day. Your Smart Vision Optometrist will advise you to stay out of direct sunlight for a few days after treatment and apply sun screen.

Patients usually report an improvement in their dry eye signs and symptoms after their second or third treatment. Four to five sessions with two to four weeks in between are typically needed to achieve optimum results.

We recommend that, after your full treatment session, you consult your Smart Vision Optometrist about maintenance treatments (usually once every 6 months) to ensure the best long term results.
