
GARY RODNEY
Smart Vision Optometry Founder and Leader
Master of Optometry, Behavioural Optometrist and Fellow of the International Association of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control
With over 30 years of experience in optometric practice, Gary Rodney is the Creator and Founder of Smart Vision Optometry, a network of behavioural and clinical optometry practices dedicated to transforming the way vision care is understood and delivered.
After graduating from the University of New South Wales with a Bachelor of Optometry, Gary gained invaluable experience working alongside respected optometrists across Sydney before establishing his own independent practices on the Central Coast, then in Wahroonga and Mosman.
In 1995, Gary founded Smart Vision Optometry, a brand that has since become a benchmark for innovative and holistic eye care — officially recognised and trademarked for its unique processes, procedures, and intellectual property. In 2012, he partnered with Thompson, Larter & Associates Behavioural Optometrists, expanding to Bondi Beach two years later with Eyes InDesign Smart Vision Optometry Bondi.
Gary holds a Postgraduate Certificate in Behavioural Optometry (achieved with High Distinction) and a Postgraduate Certificate in Ocular Therapy, completing his Master’s Degree in Optometry in 2015. In 2018, he was accepted as a Fellow of the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control (FIAOMC) — an acknowledgement of his global contribution to the field.
A dedicated member of the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO), the Orthokeratology Society of Oceania, the International Academy of Orthokeratology and Myopia Control, and Optometry Australia, Gary’s work focuses on children’s vision, myopia control, sports vision, and visual performance.
“Optometry is about more than improving sight — it’s about understanding how vision influences every aspect of life,” Gary shares. “My goal is to empower patients with the knowledge and care they need to protect their vision for the future.”
Under Gary’s leadership, Smart Vision Optometry has a vision to expand nationwide and globally, helping people everywhere see, learn, and live better.

JACQUELINE GATTEGNO
Accredited Smart Vision Optometry Mentor and Principal Optometrist Behavioural Optometrist & Orthokeratologist
Jacquie Gattegno is the Principal Senior Optometrist at Eyes InDesign Smart Vision Optometry Bondi, bringing over three decades of professional experience in both private practice and research settings. A graduate of the University of New South Wales, Jacquie holds a Bachelor of Optometry (Honours) and has completed the Behavioural Optometry component of her Master’s Degree.
Throughout her career, Jacquie has worked across Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs and North Shore, as well as in public research facilities, developing a broad skill set that spans general practice, contact lenses, and the management of diabetic retinopathy and glaucoma.
With a strong personal and professional interest in children’s vision and developmental care, Jacquie is passionate about identifying and addressing visual factors that impact learning and daily performance. She is dedicated to providing holistic, tailored care that empowers patients of all ages to reach their full visual potential.
“What I find most rewarding,” Jacquie shares, “is helping patients understand how their vision influences the way they learn, move, and engage with the world. For children especially, supporting healthy visual development can make a lifelong difference.”
Jacquie is a proud member of Optometry Australia and the Australasian College of Behavioural Optometrists (ACBO). Since joining the Smart Vision Group in 2013, she has been instrumental in delivering the practice’s mission of blending clinical excellence with compassionate, patient-focused care.

SHARON WILSON
Accredited Smart Vision Leader of Operations
With over 13 years of experience in the optical industry, Sharon brings exceptional expertise, warmth, and a genuine passion for helping patients feel confident in their vision and their style. Known for her caring and nurturing approach, Sharon thrives on creating a welcoming experience for patients of all ages — from young children to adults seeking tailored eyewear solutions.
Sharon’s love of fashion, colour, and design shines through in her ability to help patients find eyewear that complements both their personality and visual needs. Having worked closely with Gary Rodney and Jacquie Gattegno, she has developed a deep understanding of Behavioural Optometry and Orthokeratology, enhanced by her own family’s personal experience with the Smart Vision program.
“What I love most about my role,” Sharon shares, “is connecting with our patients — really getting to know them and helping them find eyewear that not only improves their vision but makes them feel amazing. It’s so rewarding to see the confidence that the right pair of glasses can bring.”
With a background in high-end and boutique retail, Sharon combines style expertise with an empathetic, patient-focused approach. Her calm, friendly manner and years of experience working with children make her a trusted and much-loved member of the Smart Vision team.

ASYA BIELOROUSSETS
Accredited Smart Vision Optical Dispenser
Asya’s journey into the world of optometry began unexpectedly during the COVID pandemic when a chance opportunity to help a friend opened the door to a lasting passion for vision care. What started as a favour soon became a calling, fuelled by her own personal experiences with eye-related challenges and a genuine empathy for others facing similar issues.
Her introduction to Smart Vision Optometry was also serendipitous — but it quickly became a defining moment in her career. Through her time with the practice, Asya discovered a deeper understanding of holistic eye health and the profound difference that personalised, behavioural optometry can make in people’s lives.
“I truly look forward to coming into work every day,” Asya shares. “Each day brings new challenges and incredible patients who are an absolute pleasure to meet. I’m surrounded by a supportive, knowledgeable team, and I love helping our patients find the perfect pair of frames that reflect their personality and lifestyle.”
In addition to supporting patients, Asya is also completing her own Smart Vision Wellness Treatment Program, giving her unique insight into the patient experience. She’s passionate about sharing her knowledge and helping others see — and live — more comfortably and confidently through the Smart Vision approach.

CLAUDIA TEGART
Accredited Smart Vision Optometry Assistant
Currently pursuing a Bachelor of Vision Science at the University of New South Wales, Claudia Tegart brings warmth, focus, and a genuine passion for helping people to her role at Smart Vision Optometry. With a background in hospitality and customer service, Claudia has developed exceptional communication and multitasking skills, which she now applies to ensuring every patient feels valued and cared for.
Her journey into optometry began with a fascination for how vision affects learning, comfort, and everyday life. Having grown up in Dubbo before moving to Sydney, Claudia’s approachable nature and strong work ethic reflect her belief in connecting with people from all walks of life.
“What I love about Smart Vision,” Claudia shares, “is the focus on understanding each person — not just their eyesight, but how their vision impacts the way they live and feel. For me, optometry is about creating that meaningful difference — helping people see clearly, comfortably, and confidently.”
Claudia is particularly interested in paediatric and behavioural optometry, and she’s excited to continue learning from a team that values innovation, empathy, and holistic care in every aspect of eye health.

NATHANIEL LEUNG

Currently completing his Bachelor of Vision Science/Master of Clinical Optometry at the University of New South Wales, Nathaniel Leung is part of Smart Vision Optometry’s next generation of future practitioners who are deeply passionate about advancing patient-centred care. With a high distinction academic record and strong foundations in ocular disease, Nathaniel brings both scientific precision and empathy to his work.
Nathaniel’s journey into optometry began with a fascination for how vision shapes human experience — from learning and development to daily wellbeing. His previous experience has strengthened his understanding of patient communication, efficiency, and the value of compassionate service in healthcare. Fluent in English, Cantonese, and Mandarin, he connects easily with patients from diverse backgrounds, ensuring everyone feels comfortable and understood.
“What drew me to Smart Vision Optometry,” Nathaniel explains, “is their commitment to treating vision as more than just eyesight — it’s about understanding how the eyes, brain, and lifestyle all work together. For me, optometry isn’t just about diagnosing or prescribing; it’s about helping people see and live better, every day.”
Nathaniel is particularly interested in ocular disease management, paediatric eye care, and behavioural optometry, and is excited to continue developing his clinical skills in a practice that values innovation, empathy, and lifelong learning.

MICHAELA TRIANDAFILLOU

With a background spanning medical administration, client relations, and patient support, Michaela Triandafillou brings warmth, organisation, and genuine care to every interaction at Smart Vision Optometry. Her experience in healthcare and customer service has shaped her belief that exceptional eye care goes far beyond appointments and prescriptions — it’s about making every patient feel valued, comfortable, and understood.
Michaela’s journey into the world of optometry began with a deep interest in health and wellness, and a natural affinity for helping people. After working in medical and professional settings, she was drawn to Smart Vision’s unique focus on holistic and behavioural optometry — where care extends to understanding how vision influences learning, development, and daily life.
“For me, it’s not just about assisting with appointments or administration,” Michaela says. “It’s about ensuring that every person who walks through our doors feels genuinely cared for.
